Classic power-trio rock driven by the kind of fiery and blistering guitar flourishes that defines the genre is the order of the day on The Leftovers fine new CD, "Reheat and Serve." Alternately flashing the kind of licks a fan of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, or Stevie Ray Vaughan would drool over, veteran rocker D. Logan Foster leads a 3-piece band through a 9-song workout of blues fire and rock dynamics with drama and flair. With wife Cassandra Roxanne (Bass) and Bennie Bee (drums) proving a rock-solid and inventive rhythm section, classic blues rock gets a makeover on the Santana-inflected "Simple Woman" while the Southern chug of "Your Eyes Give You Away" are right out of the Lynyrd Skynyrd playbook. CD-opener, "Let's Do It Again" surges with a Hendrix-like fury as Foster's slashing chops cuts through the song like lightning bolts. But in the best of power-trio traditions (e.g., Cream, Hendrix Experience, Blue Cheer), sheer sonic power is often tempered in service of the song, as on the closer, "Mississippi Blues," a blues shuffle that features Foster's earthy and down-home vocals to best effect. Originally released in 1976, "Red Letter Day" by Tom Lucas is a CD packed with the truest form of American Rock. Lucas' lyrics deal with the never-ending political issues of our time and don't hold back on his sentiments. Close your eyes and listen to Lucas' vocals as they are pure, crisp, and simple, whereas you might even think you are hearing Neil Young. "Babylon Rising" is piano-driven with an energetic Blues/Rock tonality. The original album contained nine tracks, but the addition of a new track, "Stars In The Night," gives the listeners a taste of nice harmonies and moving beats. Whiteboy Slim knows the Blues. What unites the music of the album is that is it created as a tuneful affirmation of God's love. "Count It All Joy" is a boisterous and fun Rock song that celebrates the feelings of joy one can feel within their life. "Long Live the King" is a slow moving Rock ballad, with a focus on the piano that is in reverence to the creator of us all. "Sanctuary" is a song that decides to simplify things and focus on the harmony between male and female vocals, with a beautifully played acoustic guitar in the background. This album is perfect for those who enjoy a band who attempts to show many sides of Rock music within one album, as well as those who appreciate Contemporary music that is in celebration of the divine.

Mike Short Jr's terrific debut CD, "Blame It On Me," is that rarest of 21st century Country and Western albums: it's full of genuine country music. The fiddles are pure Nashville, the piano is authentic honky tonk, the guitar tones are patented Fender, and Short's plaintive, down-home vocals recall classic singers with names like Merle, Garth and Buck. Granted, there's enough contemporary country-rock sheen to make songs like the up-tempo "Good Guys Wear Black" and "Lady in Waiting" completely radio-ready, but such studio polish can't hide the deep country underpinnings that make this 12-song collection solid from beginning to end. Bookended by the soulful delivery of opening track, "Who's to Blame," and the solemn tones of the final song - the excellent ballad, "Soon I'm Comin' Home," Mike Short Jr's hook-filled "Blame It on Me" CD touches all the bases on an album for listeners who still appreciate true country singers and real country songs.

The opening track, "All I Need is Time" stays true to the band's down-home Country roots both lyrically and melodically. The harmonies in this track fits perfectly while each note played by the acoustic guitar complements the vocals as the emotional lyrics are of pain and the need and will to recover. The song, "I Will Believe You" relies on a progressive tempo and ambient notes that puts the listener in a smooth trance. Country is well-showcased in this album and for those fans who love bands like the Dixie Chicks and singers with the same range and tone must experience the exceptional compositions and lead vocals/harmonies of "Written Roads."

The first thing that comes to mind when you start spinning this album is sitting on a porch in the heartland of America. Hollis sings with a solid Country twang while his songs are splashed with rootsy Country and early Blues music. His vocals complement the laid back lyrics which bring out interesting melodies with down home Southern qualities. Tracks like "Honey I Still Miss You" feature some nice embellishments of fiddle, harmonica, and slide guitar. The background instrumentation is relatively simple throughout the album, yet it is professional and not overbearing. This is because the focus of this instrumental album, is on Mary's articulate and skilled guitar playing. On "Black Magic Woman" we really get a sense of Mary's bluesy side as she plays with soul and gusto. On "Apache" we are presented with a quasi-soothing western song in which she lets her guitar sing out in a lovely fashion. On the final track, "Canon Rock," Grandma Mary rips out some hot rock lead guitar riffs! This album is filled with numerous genres and sounds; it is for the most part a tranquil album, with some rockers mixed in as well. You will appreciate this album if you want to be inspired by an album that demonstrates that a love for music is a lifelong passion.

This CD is definitely one that has the potential of being pumped in downtown nightclubs to get everyone out on the dancefloor. "New Life" is the third gospel reggae release from impressive writer/composer duo Errol and Kaye Leslie. Originally from Jamaica, but currently taking up residence in Florida, Errol and Kaye smoothly incorporate Caribbean reggae rhythms into their gospel songs for their music ministries. The result is twelve upbeat and rhythmic tracks about the importance of Jesus in our day to day existence and the necessity of putting one's life into God's hands. Errol and Kaye, combined with the backing vocalists, create some great vocal dynamics on this album. Errol has a great booming bass reggae vocal, and Kaye a strong alto more lenient to the gospel end of the sound. "New Life" features great production quality. It sounds very clean and makes you feel as though you are in a Caribbean tent revival. "Caribbean Gospel Medley" defines Caribbean gospel perfectly with an attention-getting beat, great vocal layering, and lyrics about redemption. The title track, "New Life," is an Elvis-esque southern gospel track with great booming doo-wop vocals from Errol, more great vocal layering, and a classic arrangement. Overall, "New Life" is an accomplishment, as it combines the fun, upbeat sounds of the Caribbean with serious and heartfelt gospel lyrics. If the fusion of reggae with gospel appeals to you, I strongly recommend that you check out Errol and Kaye Leslie.

What follows is a further 14-track exploration of rock styles fused by spot-on instincts and flashes of potent song craft. Built on a classic rock attitude of tuneful and engaging hooks, "Elliptical Motion" is jam packed with songs of raw intensity such as "Luck Runnin' Out," or "Release The Peace" and soulful balladry of "If Ever" or "Hide Away," as well as radio-ready fare defying the constraints of categorization "Don't Hold Back," and "Ebony Eyes." RadioIndy is pleased to present David Cahalan with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Dedicated"

With the fittingly titled "Dedicated," David Cahalan pays tribute to the music of The Carpenters, for whom he is a former background singer. He modernizes each tune with his melodic, individual style, breathing new life into the original while making it his own. He opens the set with the familiar "Hurting Each Other," updating the standard tune with his modern style of pop. He gives the classic "Close To You" a contemporary flair with a bright, bouncing groove, and smooth lead and background vocals. His version of "For All We Know" is a touching ballad, featuring soulful vocals by Cahalan and a shimmering soprano sax melody. His rendition of "Superstar" features a great horn section and a brilliant string arrangement. "Bless the Beasts and the Children" is a wonderful duet, with Cahalan and his female counterpart in fine form. With "Dedicated," David Cahalan pays a suitable and proper tribute to truly great songs that were sung by Karen Carpenter. This is surely an album that all Carpenters' fans will appreciate.

RadioIndy is pleased to present MARK II with a GrIndie Award for the CD "Mark II"

"Mark II" by Contemporary Christian Rock band Mark II (Mark Wright) is an impressive high-energy release featuring well-crafted songs with spiritual, compassionate messages. The message in each track is delivered through Wright's thought provoking lyrics and spirited vocal performances. Wright is backed by a group of talented musicians that provide excellent support and brilliant background vocals throughout. This album rocks hard with the foot-stomping opener "About a Savior," and continues with such melodic tracks as "Come Follow Me" and "Promises" that feature catchy guitar riffs and memorable choruses. Also noteworthy are the moving ballads such as the uplifting "I Believe" and the heartening "In Your Hands," where Wright's vocal abilities are on full display. The energetic "Miracle" is a fitting closer, as Wright hopes to touch lives as he conveys his positive, encouraging message through his music. Fans of Contemporary Christian Rock should definitely give "Mark II" a listen.

"The Paul Cook Project" by Paul Cook Project (Country Artist from Texas(TX))

The inescapable lesson learned by Susan Boyle's meteoric rise to international YouTube fame is that singing talent is not the exclusive domain of attractive, expertly-coiffed 20-somethings belting out staid and redundant songs for a TV audience of musical reactionaries. The recently released disc, "The Paul Cook Project" is an album of original songs performed by various (unknown) singers from Abilene, Texas, drives that lesson home over the course of 15 tuneful, well-crafted, and meaning-filled songs that ache with sincerity and positivism. From the lush-pop strains of "Making Memories" to the contemporary country pulse of the Anytown, USA, narrative, "Light It Up"; from the self-empowerment piano ballad "I Can Win" to the inspirational strains of "Our Time," "The Paul Cook Project" melds a diversity of musical forms in a cohesive collection, thanks mainly to Cook's unerring knack for accessible and memorable melodies. Underscoring the entire CD is a solemn sense of Christian faith (made overt on songs such as, "Don't Run Away" and "Fruit of the Spirit"), but the spirituality is inclusive, not heavy-handed or preachy. "The Paul Cook Project" is a very listenable, fun (check out the Roger Miller-like ditty, "I Do What I Do") uplifting and, most of all, engaging CD of well-conceived, well-played & (gasp!) well-sung songs by the guy next door and an anonymous – but talented, community of singers.

"Gospel Gladness" by Kelly Newton-Wordsworth (Spiritual Artist from Australia)

Award winning singer/songwriter, Kelly Newton-Wordsworth, releases another memorable disc, "Gospel Gladness." This album contains a beautiful blend of Christian-folk and a touch of rock music. The lyrics are uplifting and spiritual while they exhibit Newton-Wordsworth's commitment to her religious beliefs. The vocals are strong and sincere and project meaning behind each song. "My Lord Jesus" is pure and simple with stunning vocals and acoustic guitar. Taking a turn to the rock side, "Gethsemane" has a walking bass, guitar, and keys that give off an edgier feel. Your toes will be tapping and your hands will be clapping along to the catchy sing-along song "My God Is My Rock." She has created a terrific version of "Amazing Grace" with an upbeat rhythm and beautiful harmonies. If you need a little spiritual uplifting, take a listen to "Gospel Gladness" by Kelly Newton-Wordsworth, as it will surely comfort your body and soul.

"Live at the Bluebird Cafe" is the latest release by Grammy nominee artist Celeste. Featured on this album is a wonderful collection of performances highlighting Celeste's vocal abilities with various styles and lyrics. This highly talented country/blues singer and songwriter kicks out vocals that are melodic, strong, and alluring. Her bluesy and bold lyrics on "I Can Change My Mind" will have all women nodding their heads in agreement. "Suddenly, We're All French" has witty and fun lyrics which Celeste delivers with easy flowing spoken wordplay. Sweet and tender, "Body and Soul" shows the diversity in style this delightful singer has to offer. Celeste's "Live at the Bluebird Café" is a great album to hear especially if you're looking for some new and refreshing country and blues.

"Sacred Fire" by Jonae' (Easy Listening Artist from Tennessee(TN))

Melodic and fascinating is the recently released disc "Sacred Fire" by innovative artist Jonae'. With a unique blend of violin, cello, viola, guitar, and world percussion the tracks on this CD have a very rich and instrumentally layered sound. There is a strong rhythmic backing to these songs and a unique sound. The CD is energetic and filled with vibrant and upbeat instrumental arrangements. Take for example the titled track "The Sacred Fire" as the burning runs on the strings gives spirited life to this dynamic piece. Feel the rhythmic beats of the percussion as it swirls around the strings on "Fireflies." Showing a little versatility and moving the tempo to a waltz feel, which is seldom heard these days, "Blue Mountain Waltz" draws attention with the beautiful balance of harmonies of the strings. "Sacred Fire" is a wonderful collection of contemporary instrumentals and is a CD well worth listening to.
